Stirling Council can confirm that is working with charity Dnipro Kids to provide sanctuary for children and young people fleeing the war in Ukraine.

Following a request of support from the charity last week, the Council has been working to put arrangements in place to provide a temporary home for the children, who were evacuated from orphanages in Ukraine during the Russian invasion.

The children are due to arrive later this week and will be accommodated together at a location in the Callander area. They are expected to spend several weeks there before moving to Edinburgh.

The Council is working closely with its public sector partners, including Police Scotland, NHS Forth Valley, The Care Inspectorate and Scottish Fire and Rescue, to cover all the needs of the children such as their health, wellbeing, welfare and safety.

This will include a wide range of psychological services to provide emotional support for the children given the traumatic events they have experienced in their homeland.

Access to school and nursery settings and other activities has also been arranged that will support the integration of the children into the local community.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone from the local community who has got in touch to offer support and to show interest in the situation. From this, we know the refugees will receive a warm welcome from local people.

At this time, our priority is to ensure the children and young people feel safe, stable and secure on their arrival, and we ask that the privacy of the children is respected as they settle into their new environment.

We would like to reassure residents that all necessary supports are in place for the children and we will continue to provide key updates about the situation and if we require any additional support.

Please note that we are still awaiting guidance from the Scottish Government on the implementation of the Homes for Ukraine scheme. We will provide details on this and how people can get involved as soon as possible.
