Stirling’s young people have achieved improved levels of attainment across the board in this year’s SQA results compared to pre-covid levels.
The 2022 results are the first in three years that are based on formal exam performance, following disruption caused by the pandemic.
Initial figures show there has been a marked increase in the percentage of S5 and S6 pupils in Stirling’s schools securing 1,3 or 5 Highers from 2019.
This improvement is mirrored in the number of young people in S4 gaining five awards at National 5 level, while there has been a significant rise of S6 students attaining Advanced Highers.
Along with the SQA awards, young people across Stirling have also celebrated success in a wide range of vocational courses being delivered both at school and at college such as in hospitality, construction and early years education.
Convener of Stirling Council’s Children and Young People Committee, Cllr Danny Gibson said: ‘This is a fantastic set of exam results for Stirling’s young people with improvement in every year group compared to three years ago.
This success is testament to their hard work, commitment and resilience during a school year when the pandemic was still causing significant challenges and uncertainty.
These excellent academic and vocational achievements will help our young people progress onto a wide range of positive pathways, whether that’s further education, employment or training and be the best they can be.
None of this would be possible, however, without the outstanding dedication and professionalism of our teachers and school staff, and the support of our amazing parents and carers.’
Cllr Gibson added ‘While many pupils in our schools will be rightly celebrating success, I know some may not have got the results they were hoping for and may be feeling worried or anxious.
Please remember there is always a next step, and support is available for whatever you want to do, or even if you just want to talk to someone about how you are feeling.’

Two helplines are open for candidates following the issuing of the exam results.
Skills Development Scotland has a helpline for young people who may have questions about their grades or considering what to do next. Their advisers can offer information on college and university vacancies, employment and training and other options.

- 8am-8pm on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 August
- 9am-5pm between 11 and 17 August (excluding weekends)

The SQA Candidate Advice Line (0345 279 1000) provides information for candidates on the content and layout of their certificate.
