New £1.2 million regeneration project to boost Bannockburn businesses

A £1.2 million regeneration project will deliver new infrastructure, technology and services in the heart of Bannockburn to help residents and businesses thrive.

Stirling Council is investing in the refurbishment of two prominent Bannockburn buildings, the former RBS branch at Quakerfield and Bannockburn Library, for the benefit of the local community.

Following extensive engagement with the local community on what it wanted to see delivered, the project will include:

–        A new businesses and support hub in the former RBS unit.

–        Refurbishment of Bannockburn Library including development of Stirling’s first Makerspace facility.

Work is scheduled to begin in April, with new facilities ready for use later this year.

Convener of the Finance and Economy Committee, Councillor Margaret Brisley, said: “This investment will bring enormous benefits to both Bannockburn and wider-Stirling, transforming two central facilities for individuals, communities and businesses.

“We understand how important our libraries are as community hubs, which has been highlighted more than ever during the last few months, and the refurbishment of Bannockburn library will ensure the community have a modern facility that offers the opportunity to explore technology which might otherwise be beyond their reach.”

Development of the former RBS branch will create an affordable and practical working space in the centre of Bannockburn.

The facility will support local start-ups and help established businesses continue to grow, while providing a valuable learning and advice resource for local schools and the local community.

The refurbishment of Bannockburn Library will meanwhile introduce Stirling’s first-ever Makerspace, offering tools and resources to help residents explore new technologies, get creative and bring their ideas to life.

Stirling Council has secured funding from the Scottish Government’s Town Centre Fund, as well as contributing funds from their own capital budget, to facilitate the project.

“The Council are committed to providing opportunities for people to build new skills and offering facilities where these skills and ideas can be developed into exciting new businesses and products.”
