As you will be aware, Stirling will host the Individual Time Trials at the forthcoming UCI Cycling World Championships from Wednesday 9 to Friday 11 August.

It is estimated that an additional 20,000 to 24,000 visitors will come to Stirling to spectate and the area will become part of the overall World Championship marketing campaign.  Showcasing the region within the 2023 UCI Championship’s with an estimated projected overall broadcast reach of 1 billion across 160 global broadcast markets, syndicated from host broadcaster BBC Sport.  For the time trial it is estimated that the audience will be around 125 million viewers. There is no doubt that there will be the creation of a “buzz” with visiting athletes, spectators and media.

In addition to the numerous pubs and cafes that are located on and near the route throughout Stirling, fan zones will be placed at: The Smiddy at Blairdrummond; the Gargunnock Inn, the Woodhouse in Kippen, King Street and City Park near the starting area of the Time Trials, please encourage the community to make use of these spaces and support local.

To ensure the Time Trials run safely, certain roads across the Stirling area including your community will be closed on 9, 10 and 11 August for extended periods, and we recommend that you start planning ahead for these events.  This is most likely to impact communities in Stirling City Centre, Gargunnock, Cambusbarron, Kippen and Thornhill, however other areas may experience some delays as well as an increase in traffic on the roads due to the number of diversions around the area.

These roads include the A811, A873/ B8031( Coldoch Road),  and the B8075 ( Kirk Lane), information regarding these and other road closures can be found at the link below. For those travelling to Stirling, please note that the A811 will be closed and the A84 will have single lane/lights near the Smiddy that will cause delays:

Also, please note the X10/X10A service route into Stirling will be disrupted on these days, mainly impacting Thornhill and Blairhoyle. Information can be found here:-

Please note that emergency services will be able to access your community at all times during the event and emergencies should be reported to them via normal methods.  We will also have community hubs with emergency services on site located at Gargunnock Community Centre, Cambusbarron Primary School, Kippen Primary School and Thornhill Primary School.

Vehicles will not be allowed to park on the routes used for the Time Trials and must be moved prior to events taking place in your area. Notices will be in place prior to the event to make this clear.

During the Time Trials, there will be temporary changes to household waste collections so we can continue to empty your bins. Residents will receive another letter with details of these arrangements before the event.

Three of the Road Races will pass through areas of Stirling on 6, 12 and 13 August, these are unlikely to impact directly on your community and will require short term (max 1 hour) rolling road closures.
