Stirling Council’s hugely popular ‘Select and Collect’ book lending service will reopen for book requests on Tuesday 6th April.

Up until Christmas, Stirling Libraries had issued more than 51,000 books through the ‘Select and Collect’ service from all libraries and mobiles, and its Housebound service.
Now, with the relaxation of Covid-19 guidelines by the Scottish Government, these services are once again available as part of the first step on the road to the full reopening of Stirling’s libraries.
Residents can contact individual libraries via phone or email to choose their books and arrange a time to collect them.
Each library will have times when staff can take calls and arrange times for collection, which are made from the doorsteps of the libraries.
When contacting a library, people should request:
- How many books they would like to borrow (maximum 5)
- Type of book (adult or junior)
- Genre of book – non-fiction, murder mystery, family saga, science fiction etc
Backlogs and other challenges from the ongoing pandemic means libraries may not be able to accommodate requests for specific titles at this time.
It is also possible to request DVDs, dog and food waste bags, sanitary products and hearing aid batteries.
Please be aware that Bannockburn Library has moved to Bannockburn Community Centre while work is carried out on the refurbishment of the library and creation of a makerspace. Select and Collect will operate from Community Centre after April 6th and contact details remain the same.
Services including browsing, computer access, printing, scanning currently remain unavailable.
Stirling Council Senior Manager, Economic Development and Communities, Stuart Oliver, said: “The introduction of the ‘select and collect’ book borrowing service was a hugely popular and successful scheme when it was first launched during the easing of lockdown restrictions last year and I’m delighted that once again people will be able to get their hands on physical books.
“Our libraries are important community hubs and this is a welcome step forward. We want to roll out access to more of our popular library services as soon as possible, but safety will remain the top priority.
“Once again we will be restarting our library services in a phased approach, which continues to comply with national guidance, before we can fully open their doors to the public and restart our wide range of services.”
The ‘Select and Collect’ service has reopened in line with the Scottish Government’s timetable for the easing of Coronavirus restrictions.
